Intelligence as a Utility

The AI Systems Guy

tl;dr

Electricity changed everything not because it was new, but because it became infrastructure. AI is following the same path.

Electricity did not change the world because it was invented. It changed the world because it became a utility. You flip a switch, the lights come on, and you never think about how. AI as utility for business is following the exact same path.

When electricity first appeared, only rich factories could afford it. They needed their own generators, their own engineers, their own fuel. Then the grid arrived. Suddenly, anyone could access power by plugging into the wall.

AI is in that transition right now.

From Luxury to Utility

Two years ago, using AI in your business required data scientists, ML engineers, and custom models. That was the "own generator" phase. Expensive, complex, and available only to big companies.

Today, you can access intelligence through an API call. No data scientists required. No custom models. Plug in and go. That is the utility phase.

What Changes When Intelligence Is Cheap

When electricity became cheap, factories did not just replace candles. They redesigned everything. Production lines. Working hours. Building layouts. The cheap utility changed the architecture of business itself.

Cheap intelligence will do the same. When every business can afford AI-powered operations, the advantage shifts from access to architecture. Who designs the best systems wins. Not who has the most expensive AI.

The Architecture Advantage

Two businesses buy the same AI. One uses it to speed up emails. The other builds an entire reporting, optimization, and decision-support system on top of it.

Same utility. Completely different outcome. The difference is architecture.

This is why I focus on operations, not tools. The tool is a commodity. The system you build around it is the advantage.

The Window

Right now, most businesses are still in the "expensive generator" mindset. They think AI requires a big team and a big budget. They are wrong, but their belief gives early movers an advantage.

That window will close. Once everyone realizes intelligence is a utility, the advantage shifts entirely to execution. Get your architecture in place while the window is open.
