Why Your Competitors Will Not Tell You About Their AI
Jay Banlasan
The AI Systems Guy
tl;dr
The businesses getting ahead with AI are not talking about it. They are just quietly winning.
The businesses with real competitive advantage ai operations are not posting about it on LinkedIn. They are not running webinars about their AI strategy. They are just quietly outperforming everyone around them.
That silence is intentional.
Why They Stay Quiet
If you had a system that let you operate at twice the speed and half the cost of your competitors, would you announce it? Of course not. You would let the results speak and keep the method private.
The companies talking loudest about AI are usually the ones selling AI, not using it. The ones actually using it to gain an edge have no reason to share the playbook.
What Quiet AI Looks Like
You will not see it from the outside. You will see the effects:
- A competitor that suddenly scales marketing output without adding headcount
- A company that consistently launches campaigns faster than should be possible
- A business that seems to know exactly where to allocate budget before trends are obvious
- An operation that runs smoothly with a surprisingly small team
These are the symptoms of AI infrastructure. The infrastructure itself is invisible.
The Information Asymmetry
This creates a problem for the businesses not using AI yet. They look at competitors and see the results but not the method. They assume the competitor has a bigger team, a bigger budget, or better talent. So they try to compete on those dimensions and lose.
The real gap is systems, not resources. But you cannot see systems from the outside.
What This Means for You
First, stop benchmarking yourself against competitors' visible operations. What you see is the tip of the iceberg.
Second, assume your competitors are further along than they appear. Build your AI operations with urgency, not because you are behind, but because you do not know how far ahead they are.
Third, when you build your own AI operations, you do not need to announce it either. Let the results do the talking. Your competitors will be looking at your output the same way you looked at theirs.
The quiet ones are winning. Join them.
