Creating an AI-Powered Brand Monitor
Jay Banlasan
The AI Systems Guy
tl;dr
Track every mention of your brand across the internet. AI alerts you to what matters.
This ai brand monitor setup guide covers building a system that watches for your brand across the internet and tells you when something needs attention. Not every mention. The ones that matter.
You cannot manage what you cannot see. A brand monitor shows you everything people say about you in real time.
Setting Up Monitoring Sources
Cast a wide net. Social media platforms, review sites, forums, news outlets, blogs, and podcast transcripts.
For social media: platform APIs and third-party monitoring tools catch mentions by name, handle, and hashtag.
For the web: Google Alerts covers basic web mentions. Perplexity or custom web monitoring scripts catch deeper mentions in forums, blog comments, and niche sites.
For reviews: monitor Google Business, Yelp, Trustpilot, G2, and any industry-specific review platforms.
The AI Filter
Raw mention data is noisy. Someone with a similar brand name gets mentioned. A bot reposts your content. A random person uses your brand name as a verb.
AI filters each mention for relevance. Is this about your brand or a coincidence? Is it from a real person or a bot? Is the reach significant (10 followers vs 100,000)?
Then it classifies: positive mention, negative mention, question about your brand, competitor comparison, or press coverage. Each classification routes to a different response playbook.
Alert Priorities
Not every mention needs an alert. A positive tweet from someone with 50 followers goes in the log. A negative review on Google gets immediate attention.
Build priority tiers. Tier 1 (immediate alert): negative reviews, press coverage, mentions with high reach. Tier 2 (daily digest): positive mentions, questions, competitor comparisons. Tier 3 (weekly report): general brand sentiment trends.
Response Workflows
Each alert type has a suggested response. Negative review? Draft a response (see the automated review response post). Press inquiry? Route to PR. Positive mention? Like, comment, and add to testimonial database.
AI drafts the response. A human reviews and sends. The combination of speed and judgment protects your reputation.
Trend Analysis
Individual mentions matter less than trends. Is overall sentiment improving or declining? Are negative mentions increasing around a specific topic?
Monthly brand health reports aggregate the data. Sentiment score, mention volume, top themes, and notable mentions. This report tells you whether your brand perception is moving in the right direction.
The brands that monitor proactively control their narrative. The ones that do not discover problems when a customer tells them.
