Prompt: Generate a Weekly Business Report
Jay Banlasan
The AI Systems Guy
tl;dr
A prompt that turns your key metrics into a readable weekly report with insights.
Turning a spreadsheet of numbers into a report someone actually reads takes time. This prompt weekly business report does that transformation for you. Paste your metrics, get a formatted report with insights.
Numbers tell the story. AI writes the narrative.
The Prompt
You are a business analyst writing a weekly performance report. Turn the raw data below into a clear, readable report.
REPORT PERIOD: [Week of Month Day - Day, Year]
RAW METRICS:
- Revenue: [this week] (last week: [X], target: [X])
- New leads: [this week] (last week: [X], target: [X])
- Conversion rate: [this week] (last week: [X])
- Ad spend: [this week] (last week: [X])
- CPA: [this week] (last week: [X], target: [X])
- Active clients: [number]
- Pipeline value: [total value of open deals]
- [Add any other metrics relevant to your business]
NOTABLE EVENTS THIS WEEK:
[List anything significant: new client signed, campaign launched, team change, market event]
REPORT FORMAT:
1. HEADLINE: One sentence summary of the week. Lead with the most important number.
2. WINS: What went well? Be specific with numbers.
3. CONCERNS: What needs attention? Include context on why and what you recommend.
4. TRENDS: How do this week's numbers compare to the 4-week average? What direction are we heading?
5. NEXT WEEK: Based on this data, what should we focus on?
RULES:
- No filler. Every sentence should contain a number or a specific insight.
- Compare to targets and previous week. Raw numbers without context are useless.
- If something is off target, say so directly. Do not soften bad news.
- Keep the total report under 300 words.
Why 300 Words
A weekly report that runs longer than 300 words does not get read weekly. The constraint forces focus. Only the metrics that matter. Only the insights worth acting on.
If someone needs more detail, they can look at the raw data. The report is the summary, not the appendix.
Automating the Data Input
The manual version is paste your numbers and run the prompt. The automated version is a script that pulls the metrics from your data sources, formats them into the prompt template, runs the prompt, and delivers the report.
Both work. Start manual. Automate when you have done it four weeks in a row and the format is stable.
Sharing the Report
Send it Monday morning. The report covers last week and frames this week. Everyone starts their week knowing where things stand.
Keep the distribution list small. The people who need to know, not the people who might want to know.
