The AI Systems Guy

tl;dr

Run comprehensive SEO audits automatically so you catch issues before they cost you rankings.

SEO audits should happen monthly. In practice, they happen when traffic drops and someone panics. By then you have already lost rankings and the recovery takes weeks.

Automating your seo audit process means catching issues while they are small, fixing them before they compound, and never being surprised by a traffic drop you could have prevented.

What to Audit Automatically

Break the audit into four categories:

Technical health. Broken links, slow pages, missing meta tags, crawl errors, mobile issues. These are binary: either the page loads correctly or it does not.

Content health. Thin content, duplicate content, missing alt tags, outdated pages, keyword cannibalization. These degrade slowly, which is why they get missed.

Backlink health. New and lost backlinks, toxic links, competitor link building. Changes here signal SEO momentum or decline.

Rankings. Position changes for target keywords, new keyword appearances, featured snippet gains and losses.

The Automated Pipeline

Weekly technical scan. Use Screaming Frog or Sitebulb API (or a simple Python crawler) to check your site weekly. Compare this week's results to last week's. Flag new broken links, new 404s, new pages missing meta descriptions, and pages with load times over 3 seconds.

Monthly content audit. Pull your content inventory. For each page, check: last updated date, organic traffic trend, target keyword ranking, and word count. Claude analyzes the data: "Identify pages with declining traffic, thin content under 300 words, and pages that have not been updated in 12+ months. Prioritize by traffic impact."

Weekly backlink check. Pull new and lost links from Ahrefs or SEMrush API. Claude evaluates: "Are the new links high quality or spammy? Are lost links significant? Are competitors gaining links faster than us?"

Daily ranking monitor. Track your top 20-30 keywords daily. Alert when any keyword drops more than 5 positions in a single day.

The Report

Every Monday, the system generates a one-page SEO health report:

Claude writes the analysis. The data comes from automated scans. You review in five minutes and assign the action items.

From Audit to Action

An audit without action is just a report card. For each issue type, define the fix and who owns it:

Broken links: dev team fixes within 48 hours. Content decay: content team updates within 2 weeks. Toxic links: SEO lead submits disavow within 1 week.

Clear ownership and timelines turn audits into improvements instead of archives.
